Step one to starting a small business is usually having an idea or an ambition. To be successful you will obviously need both, but whether one comes before the other depends on you. Everyone gets great ideas from time to time, what separates people is IF they act on that idea and for how long they act on it. Most people either don’t act at all or for not very long. When you get an idea, do a business feasibility study on it. It’s a quick way to see if it can be successful or not. If it doesn’t look like your idea might be the best, that’s completely fine, just be patient until you get a better idea.
Step two to starting a small business should be development, both personal development and business development. Grow your ambition and develop your skills. As you gain more and more knowledge, you will get more and more ideas. Make sure you spend the time doing step two. This part of the process would also be called research and development (R&D). Arguably the most important part of starting a small business; step two will set the tone for your entire business. This will often be the time that you put together your business plan.
Step three to starting a small business should be to not get afraid or discouraged. Failure is ok. Most businesses fail, and even more ideas fail.
